September 6 gave the world the first circumnavigation, and this one-page printable comic tells the whole day in panels.
The hero story is the return of the Victoria to Spain in 1522, completing the first known circumnavigation of the Earth. Ferdinand Magellan organized and led the expedition when five ships left Spain in 1519, but he was killed in the Philippines in 1521, before the voyage was complete. Juan Sebastián Elcano took command of the surviving ship and brought it home with only 18 of the expedition's original crewmen still aboard. Around it are twelve more true events from the date: the Battle of Frigidus (394), Columbus sailing west (1492), George Blaurock being martyred (1529), Benedict Arnold attacking Connecticut (1781), Grant occupying Paducah (1861), President McKinley being shot (1901), the Battle of the Marne beginning (1914), and Swaziland gaining independence (1968). A National Read a Book Day feature and a born-on-this-day strip close the page.
Print it for morning work, a history lesson, or a September 6 study. One page, no prep.
After checkout, your printable PDF will be delivered by email from The Wandering Pilgrims. The download link stays active for 24 hours, so please save your file when it arrives. If you need it again after the link expires, just reply to your order email and we will resend it.
