Squanto (Tisquantum) was the last of the Patuxet. Kidnapped across the ocean to Spain, freed with the help of monks, and carried to England and back again, he came home to find his village empty. Then he chose to help the Pilgrims who had settled on its ground, interpreting their peace with Massasoit and teaching them to plant corn the way his people had.
